Housed at its very own web site, Call of Duty Elite is all set to take on some users for its closed beta, and all it takes is your date of birth and an email address. Sound easy? It is!
Call of Duty Elite is an innovative new online service that enriches gamers’ Call of Duty multiplayer experience. To get an early look at Elite, register here to get on the closed beta invite list.
Call of Duty Elite is a new paid-for addition to the existing multiplayer element of upcoming Call of Duty games, starting with this year’s installment – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Promising new maps and stat-tracking, Elite is aimed at the hardcore audience COD games are known to attract.
In a press release, Activision Blizzard say players spend more time in their multiplayer gaming worlds than people spend on Facebook in a typical day – an interesting statistic if a little pointless.
"The average Call of Duty player spends 58 minutes per day playing multiplayer. That is more than the average Facebook user spends per day on Facebook. And yet, right now, there are very few tools to unite and super charge that social community," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. "Whether it’s allowing you to connect with your friends, or people of a similar skill level, people who live in your city, people who share your favorite passions, join competitive clans or social groups, or upload, view and comment on the incredible mass of player-generated content, or watch and comment on exclusive created content, Call of Duty Elite will give people more ways to connect with fellow players than ever before. Elite will also allow players of every level to improve their game with an intuitive suite of tools, and compete in tournaments for both real and virtual prizes."

While no firm pricing information has been made available just yet, it’s expected the service will launch at a similar price point to that of online video streaming services such as Netflix, with Activision apparently wary of being seen to be gauging their loyal fans. Netflix currently sets users back $7.99 for their streaming-only plan, so expect to be paying a similar fee for Call of Duty Elite.
No word yet on when the beta will go live, but we’re guessing it won’t be too long what with MW3 due in November at all.
Lock ‘n’ load people.
